John Madejski Fine Rooms, Burlington House, Royal Academy of Arts
Free, no booking required.
Antony Gormley
Family studios are supported by Jeanne and William Callanan
Get inspired by Antony Gormley and use your body as an art tool in this free drop-in art making workshop for families, part of the Big Draw Festival 2019.
Antony Gormley is known for using the body in his art, including in his large-scale installations like the Angel of the North in Gateshead, and his cast iron figures in places like Crosby Beach near Liverpool.
In this free, drop-in workshop, draw around your body and create a freestanding sculpture, then add it to our collaborative installation as we fill the room with figures. Plus, try out our drawing challenges which will encourage you to turn your body into an art tool. Can you draw what your body feels like? What can you draw by making different movements with your body?
This workshop includes a drop-in quiet zone.
Suitable for all ages.
Part of the Big Draw Festival 2019, themed Drawn to Life.
Quiet zone
If you don’t like crowds or loud noises, look out for the quiet zone available during select family studios. Try a relaxing art making activity or take some time out from the workshop in a peaceful environment. We'll have soft furnishings to help you feel comfortable and ear defenders for you to borrow. Please help us keep things quiet by chatting at a lower volume and switching all devices to silent.
Drop-in between 11am-3pm. Meet in the Grand Assembly Room. Follow signage from the Burlington House entrance hall or ask our front of house team to direct you
