Four Visions for the Future of Housing
Where to build new homes is perhaps the most hotly contested issue of the whole housing debate. Our panel offer some fresh perspectives on this perennial question.
The "urban renaissance" of the last thirty years has rejuvenated our cities. But it has also seen house prices rising to unaffordable levels in London and the southeast, with gentrification distorting the social dynamics of our city centres. Should we try to mitigate these side effects, or instead shift the focus to building a new generation of Garden Cities, as several political parties are advocating? How can we plan for new housing in a way that’s able to withstand vested interests whilst remaining democratically accountable? Our panel offer some new ideas.
