Impressionists on Paper
Learn how to sketch with paint like an Impressionist at this weekend course with artist Emyr Williams.
In this course you will learn how to sketch with paint using materials favoured by Impressionist artists, such as oil essence and gouache. Working from a life model and focusing on the close-cropped composition techniques used by the Impressionists, you will discover how to use paint more creatively and expressively. Talks on Impressionist painting techniques and a visit to the exhibition Impressionists on Paper: Degas to Toulouse-Lautrec will give you a better understanding of how these iconic artists made their work.
Impressionist and post-Impressionist artists like Toulouse-Lautrec and Cézanne revolutionised how the medium of paint was used by artists. Leaving the material support of paper, cardboard or canvas often bare, these artists sketched with paint to create immediate and engaging compositions of everyday life that were a departure from the large, detailed history and academic paintings that dominated in the early 19th century.
Emyr Williams is an abstract painter who has exhibited in the UK, Europe and North America. His work has won awards and is held in many public, corporate and private collections worldwide.
