During this visit to Saddlers’ Hall Friends will enjoy a talk on the history of livery halls, a tour of the rebuilt hall with the Beadle, and a rare viewing of the company’s treasures with the Silver Steward.
Destroyed three times by fire or bombing, the modern Saddlers’ Hall is the private city mansion of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers; one of the oldest of the City of London Livery companies dating back to 1160.
After coffee, Friends will enjoy a presentation on the history of livery halls, a tour with the Beadle and a viewing of the company’s treasures led by the Silver Steward. These include the King’s Saddle, which is purported to have been used at the coronation of King George III in 1760, and Charles II-era ‘Fisher’ and ‘Dashwood’ Cups.
Includes tea/coffee.
