Life drawing in the Life Room, RA Schools

Become part of a 250-year tradition of life drawing at the Royal Academy by joining our first ever live-streamed life class, led by renowned portraitist Jonathan Yeo.

To celebrate our innovative exhibition project From Life, the artist Jonathan Yeo, whose sitters have included Helena Bonham Carter, Cara Delevingne and Grayson Perry, will be leading a life drawing class in the historic RA Schools Life Room. We’ll be broadcasting the event live across our social media platforms and asking you to get involved, following along at home and sharing your progress.

Please note: due to social media community standards, this event will not feature full nudity.

Who is the class for?

Anyone! You don’t need to be an experienced artist. Drawing the human figure is a time-honoured method for artists to hone their observational skills, but it’s also a great way to unleash your creativity regardless of drawing ability, giving your hand-eye coordination a workout in the process. It’s great for mental alertness and relaxation and may even help prevent memory loss.

How do I get involved?

Full details on where to find the live-stream will be posted here soon. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information closer to the time, or sign up for our email alerts below if you’d like a reminder on the day.

We’ll also be sharing tips on materials that you could use on the night, although a few sheets of paper and a pen or pencil is all you really need.

If you have any questions about this event, please email digital@royalacademy.org.uk.
