Every month, we welcome musicians from the Royal College of Music to perform original compositions inspired by the RA Collection in the galleries, as part of our Friday night late openings.

For these performances, composers from the Royal College of Music have selected a work from the RA Collection as their inspiration, which have included works by Royal Academicians and artists – such as Bob and Roberta Smith RA, Angelica Kauffman, John Constable and Michelangelo. This month’s performances have been composed by Yin Lu and Tom Foster.

Response to: John Constable RA, Landscape Study: Cottage and Rainbow
Composer: Yin Lu
Composition: Cottage and Rainbow
Musicians: Sarah Parkes Bowen, flute, Ekaterina Solomennik, cello

Response to: John Constable RA, A Boat passing a Lock
Composer: Tom Foster
Composition: Making Light
Musicians: Sarah Parkes Bowen, flute, Jonathan Leeds, bass clarinet

The works performed during this event were premiered in The Benjamin West Lecture Theatre in December 2018 in celebration of the RA’s 250th Anniversary.

Kindly supported by Dasha Shenkman.
