Ai Weiwei at the RA was the cultural phenomenon of the year. This immersive digital tour gave visitors who weren’t lucky enough to see the show in person a chance to experience it online.

Ai Weiwei 360 gave visitors an immersive tour of the galleries from anywhere in the world, accompanied by commentary from the exhibition’s curators and interviews with the artist himself. With this groundbreaking online experience, visitors were free to explore our galleries at their own pace and in any order they choose.

Introduced by RA Artistic Director Tim Marlow and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and with a voiceover from Channel 4 News anchor Jon Snow, the tour consisted of navigable 360º imagery, video and audio channels. A huge range of specially-created video helped to uncover the meaning, context and technical detail of Ai Weiwei’s work.

Ai Weiwei 360 was available on desktop, tablet or smartphone using just an internet browser. The first exhibition to be captured in photorealistic stereoscopic 3D, it was also made available on both Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard.

This online experience has now closed. You can read more about the project here, or see the Ai Weiwei exhibition page here.
