Curator Helen Valentine discusses Frith’s magnificent painting.
'A Private View at the Royal Academy, 1881' (on loan from the Pope Family Trust), depicts many well-known Victorians, including the actresses Lillie Langtry and Ellen Terry, as well as the writer Oscar Wilde. Helen Valentine, Head Curator of the RA's collection, examines the history and those depicted in the painting.
