Distinguished sculptor Tony Cragg RA discusses his understanding of sculpture as a study of how materials and forms affect and shape our ideas and emotions.
In this the next talk in our series examining arts, society and medicine, we welcome sculptor and Royal Academician Tony Cragg. Cragg’s passionate interest in science and natural history are a fascinating convergence of art, society and science.
Tony Cragg RA studied at Gloucestershire College of Art, Wimbledon School of Art and subsequently at the Royal College of Art. His solo exhibitions have been held in venues throughout the world. Cragg was the British Representative at the 43rd Venice Biennale in 1988, the year that he won the Turner Prize. More recently, he was awarded the Shakespeare Prize in 2001. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1994. Cragg lives and works in Wuppertal, Germany and has taught at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf since 1978.
