Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse
Please join us for a special evening of tea and conversation with Rebecca Salter RA, who shares her unique experience of developing a friendship with a Zen monk in Japan and bringing his collection of rare camellias to the United Kingdom.
While living and studying in Japan, Rebecca Salter RA became friends with Zen monk Otaki san who was an expert on Kyoto temple gardens. In this talk she will tell the story of his life and explain her role in bringing his collection of exceptional camellias to the Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall, a 100-acre botanic garden and arboretum where camellias have been grown for more than 200 years.
Also in attendance will be Jonathon Jones, Garden Director of the Tregothnan Estate, who will share with the group a fantastic selection of floral teas.
Booking is essential for this event, if you wish to bring a guest please book one ticket for each person.

Jonathon Jones
Jonathon is the Garden Director of the Boscawen's family owned, Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall. The estate includes a 100-acre garden, 100-acre tea plantation and thousands of acres of farm and woodland. Tregothnan is believed to be the first place to grow ornamental Camellias outdoors in Britain over 200 years ago. It was this wealth of experience combined with a pioneering spirit that led them to create the first teas actually grown in the UK. Jonathon joined the estate as head gardener from Japan 18 years ago, and is an expert in the growing and production of the most premium teas and infusions.
