Ahead of his first major show at Sadie Coles gallery, Jordan Wolfson joins Mark Godfrey for an in-depth discussion and preview of his new film 'Riverboat song' (2017).
Jordan Wolfson's virtual reality work Real Violence is currently on show at the Whitney Biennial. His recent solo shows include Stedelijk Gallery, Amsterdam and David Zwirner, NY. Riverboat song opens at Sadie Coles HQ on 27 April.
Mark Godfrey is Senior Curator (International Art) at Tate Modern. He has curated major exhibitions of work by American, German, British, Mexican and Italian artists, including Roni Horn a.k.a. Roni Horn (2009); Francis Alys: A Story of Deception (2010); Gerhard Richter: Panorama (2011); Alighiero Boetti: Game Plan (2012); Richard Hamilton (2014) and Alibis: Sigmar Polke 1963–2010 (2014). He has worked on many of the displays in the Energy and Process wing at Tate Modern and on displays of video installations by Omer Fast and Beryl Korot. Mark Godfrey has been involved in the acquisition of major works by European artists such as Gerhard Richter, Emilio Prini, Pino Pascali and Sigmar Polke. He is the Curator for the North American Acquisitions Committee, a group of 40-50 patrons helping Tate to acquire work by American and Canadian artists.
Jordan Wolfson (born NY 1980) received his BFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003. Solo exhibitions include TRUTH / LOVE and MANIC / LOVE, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2016 and 2017); Jordan Wolfson: Colored sculpture, LUMA Foundation, Arles, France (2016); Jordan Wolfson: Two Early Works, Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio (2015); Jordan Wolfson: Ecce Homo/le Poseur, organised by the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (S.M.A.K.) in Ghent (2013); and Raspbwerry Poser, Chisenhale Gallery, London (2013). Group exhibitions include World As Cartoon, Tate Britain, London (2017); Manifesta 10, State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia (2014); the 6th Glasgow International (2014) and 14 Rooms, curated by Klaus Biesenbach and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Art Basel (June 2014). In 2009, he received the Cartier Award from the Frieze Foundation.
