Booking and attending Friends excursions and events
Join Friends of the RA as we privately visit the magnificent Woburn Abbey, which houses one of the most important private art collections in the world.
The Woburn Abbey collection includes works by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Rembrandt, Tintoretto and Van Dyck, as well as George Gower's Armada Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I.
We explore the wonderful interiors and art collection on this guided tour of the Abbey. The State Dressing Room is hung with a collection of Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, such as Teniers, Cuyp and Steen. The Dining Room was remodelled by the architect Henry Holland and has for centuries displayed Woburn Abbey’s famous collection of Venetian views by Canaletto.
Friends of the RA have the chance to see the Abbey’s superb 18th-century French and English furniture collection, which features pieces by Riesner, Boulle, Weisweiler, and Montigny. To round off the day Friends enjoy a porcelain handling-session (including Sèvres and Wedgewood) with the Abbey’s curator and are invited to explore the Abbey’s gardens.
