Learn more about the challenges of keeping, digitising and updating the Parliamentary Archives on this exclusive tour for Friends of the RA.
The Parliamentary Archives of the United Kingdom preserves and makes available to public the records of the House of Lords and House of Commons dating back to 1497, as well as some 200 other collections of Parliamentary interest.
Our Friends tour of the Archives encompasses an overview of the way parliamentary records are kept, examining the fact that they are still kept on vellum. Our guides discuss the challenges of preservation, the developments that have been made to move items to digital format in the internet age, and again what challenges this presents. We will view a selection of historical documents in the Act Room during the tour.
This event is also taking place on 25 October 2016.
