Bill Viola / Michelangelo
We invite Friends of the RA to join us for an exclusive preview of our ‘Bill Viola / Michelangelo’ exhibition before it opens to the public.
The first show in our 2019 exhibition programme, take an immersive journey through the cycle of life at the RA as we bring together the works of two artists born centuries apart, but united by the universal themes their work explores: birth, life, death and transcendence. Join us for an exclusive preview of the Bill Viola / Michelangelo exhibition, three days before it opens to the public.
Twelve years ago, pioneering video artist Bill Viola witnessed how Michelangelo achieved expressive and emotional power through the human form in his drawings. This January, we will show how both artists grapple with life’s fundamental questions, in radically different media.
Experience a five-metre-high projection, Tristan’s Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall) alongside 11 major installations by Viola that span his entire career and see some of the most poignant drawings from the Renaissance master.
This event is open to Friends of the RA, RA250 Friends and RA250 Supporters and members of the Academicians’ Room only.
