CO2morrow, 2009
Carbon fibre, LED, aluminium and data stream
A form inspired by a carbon dioxide scrubber molecule clings virus-like to the outside of 6 Burlington Gardens. Commissioned by the National Trust in support of this exhibition and the Trust's own environmental concerns, the work uses CO2 readings to activate its changing light display. Carbon storage is the subject of fierce scientific debate. Scrubber molecules, whether natural or engineered, should in theory be able to remove harmful CO2 from the atmosphere and are a key component in proposals for adaptation to climate change.
