Some months ago, while Pine was officiating on behalf of
William Thomson, he had issued an order to Mr Townshend for the settlement of his allowances. As Stubbs had lost the order, Pine is forced to trust to his memory for the information that Townshend entered the Society's service on 1 August 1769.
