William Thompson (ca.1730 - 1800)

Portrait painter and drawing master; Assistant Secretary of the Society of Artists, 1770-1775. Born in Dublin but trained and practiced in London, where he died in 1800. Known as `Blarney Thompson’. Exhibited: Society of Artists 1760-77 and perhaps Free Society of Artists 1782. He published The conduct of the Royal Academicians : while members of the Incorporated Society of Artists of Great Britain, viz. from the year 1760, to their expulsion in the year 1769. With some part of their transactions since. London: 1771.
