This is a reduced preliminary cast for Lord Leighton's full-size Athlete Struggling with a Python. Leighton gave the original clay model for this reduced version to his friend and fellow Royal Academician, G.F. Watts, who arranged for it to be cast. This particular statuette was given by descendants of John Pettie, RA.
