Sir Robert Strange (1721 - 1792)

Engraver; writer; collector. Studied in Edinburgh and Rouen; active in Paris (1749), London (1750 onwards) and Rome (1760-5). Wrote on establishing the Royal Academy of Arts. Sold his prints from his house ‘at the Golden Head in Henrietta Street, Covent Garden’ from 1754 to 1762. Knighted in 1787.
