Organist and composer; studied in Norwich and from ca. 1763 worked in London (but died in Boulogne). Husband of miniaturist Elizabeth Jane Hook (née Madden) (d. 1795); father of priest James Hook (1772?-1828) and writer Theodore Edward Hook (1788-1841).
