George Brudenell; in 1730 married Mary, daughter of John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu; in 1732 succeeded as 4th Earl of Cardigan; in 1749 on his father-in-law’s death assumed the name of Montagu, though the dukedom became extinct; in 1766 was created Marquess of Monthermer and Duke of Montagu of the second creation.
