No plate is signed. The RIBA catalogue states that several were copied by Clener from unpublished plates prepared by J.H.W. Tischbein for the Collection of engravings from ancient vases ... now in the posession of Sir Wm. Hamilton (1791-7).

The three headpieces are also unsigned.

The dedication in Volume I is from Dubois-Maisonneuve to 'L'Impératrice-Reine' (as the volume is dated 1808, this must refer to Napoleon's first consort, Josephine).

Summary Note

The plates show outline drawings of the designs on the vases. The subjects are taken from ancient Greek mythology or ancient Greek social life.

Some copies were issued with hand-coloured plates.

Quèrard states that the work was first published in 25 livraisons; and that a second edition was published in four parts in 1816, but Brunet states that this was a reissue of the first edition with cancel title-leaves.
