Summary Note

“The prints in this book have been made from lino blocks, cut between 1954 and 1961, while Rupert Shephard was working in Cape Town.

Prints from the blocks, not always in complete editions, were made by the artist in Cape Town. Most of them have been exhibited as a series at galleries in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and in 1962 at the Agnew Gallery in London.

Individual prints have been exhibited in the Venice Biennale and on four occasions at the Ljubljana International Graphic Exhibition, Yugoslavia. They have also been shown in Switzerland, the United States and Russia. Prints are also in private collections, and in public galleries in South Africa.

This is the firs time that the series, with the addition of Mine Dance II and the frontispiece of Flower Girls, has been printed in book form.

A description of the plates and a biographical note will be found at the end of the book.” [Introduction].
