Summary Note
The text consists of six lectures on the principles, technique and history of engraving delivered at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in 1806. Having been asked to discontinue these because of his criticisms of the print-publisher, John Boydell, Landseer published them in 1807 with a long Preface.
Landseer had become an Associate of the Royal Academy in February 1806; and he continually pressed for engravers to be admitted to full Membership.
