This book arises from the request from the British Library's Legal Deposit Office for the deposit of a publication. Fiona Banner replied "Recently I have used International Standard Book Numbers to publish a series of one-off prints and sculptural books. These works have been registered with the data agency, each with its own ISBN and title. The ISBN works are part of a series about the way ideas are represented and circulated, and our desire for mythology, both historical and biographical ... After considering your request for legal deposit, I propose that I publish a comprehensive bound compendium of the ISBN artworks and the data information forms used to register them. I shall supply you with a copy of this publication - it could provide reference and representation of the overall body of work, and of its self" -- leaf [3].

According to the artists website, the book is published in an edition of 200. (100 silver and 100 white letterpress covers). However, the RA Library copy is numbered in pencil 300/400 on the verso of leaf [6].
