Mrs Herbert was going to find out that day if the picture had arrived safely. Lady Granville's husband [
Lord Granville] was very pleased that Middleton Todd would be exhibiting it next year, and would give him another sitting if he needed it. The letter encloses the draft of Middleton Todd's original letter to Lady Granville, dated 8 November 1952, thanking them for his long and pleasant stay [at Hillsborough], expressing his anxiety that the portrait of Lord Granville should be an exceptionally good one, and hoping that the Granvilles would be pleased with it. The draft also bears a sketch in ink of a female nude.
