Papers relating to artists' materials: copy of report by A. P. Laurie to the Secretary of The Imperial Arts League, in reply to a letter from him [not present] criticising modern water colour paper, 30 June 1927, with covering letter from Laurie to the Secretary, Walter Lamb, 1 July 1927: the complaints had been discussed at a meeting of the Sub-Committee on artists' materials; copy of letter from the President and Council to the Royal Commission on National Museums and Galleries, advocating that at least one professional artist of authority in technical matters should be included among the Trustees of the National Gallery, and mentioning the work of the RA-established Committee on artists' materials and the care and treatment of pictures, 13 May 1929; further memorandum from the President and Council to the Royal Commission, also expressing the view that the President of the Royal Academy ought to be an ex-officio member of the boards of trustees of both the National Gallery and the Tate Gallery, June 1929; press cutting of a letter from the Secretary to the Editor of the Times, welcoming the announcement of a Government-led conference on artists' materials and the repair of pictures, and describing the work of the RA in the field, 17 July 1931; copy of paper from A. P. Laurie to the Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research [the department under whose auspices the proposed conference on artists' materials was to be held], entitled "Suggestions as to the problems in connection with the preservation of pictures requiring elucidation, and the best methods of amplifying the means of research", 21 August 1931 and printed memorandum of the President and Council on the treatment of national pictures and the public policy of the Royal Academy, February 1935.
