He has sepnt ten days at The Grove with Lord Clarendon, who was at a loss to account for the miscarried letter. Mrs. Griffith's read White's letter to him (as she does for every letter) and was gratified to read his words about her.

He is happy to write of the arts, but as it is dangerous to speak of living artists he asks that the letters be preserved and returned to him. Bone had nearly completed his picture of Paul III when the plate warped. He has now begun afresh.
