Volume of minutes of the Council, including the following selected entries: the resolution to institute varnishing days for members exhibiting paintings, 1 March 1809; resolutions to reduce expenditure on the annual dinner, following an adverse report by the Royal Academy’s Auditors, 5 – 11 April 1809; a note of the decision to raise the salaries of the Keeper and other officers, 3 July 1809; a resolution to ban criticism of, or comments on living artists by those delivering Royal Academy lectures, listing three reasons for the decision, 3 February 1810 and references to the reaction to the decision by Sir John Soane, Professor of Architecture, 10 – 19 February 1810 and passim; a note of the decision to contact the surveyor of Somerset House with a view to improving the light in the exhibition room, 13 August 1810; a note of the passing of a motion to submit all Royal Academy business to the Prince Regent during the incapacity of King George III, 13 March 1812; and the Council’s rejection of a petition submitted to the Prince Regent to include engravers as members, 29 December 1812.
