Minutes of meetings of the Council, including the following selected entries: the Secretary, Humphrey Brooke, authorised to negotiate with Messrs Colnaghi for the acquisition of two water-colour drawings of the Royal Academy Schools by E. F. Burney, signed and dated 1779, one of which showed the Leonardo cartoon [‘The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John the Baptist’] in the background: “the earliest record of the Academy’s possession of this treasure”, 25 May 1960; the decision to approach the Central Council for the care of Churches following the receipt of correspondence about the neglected state of the tomb of Sir Francis Grant at Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, 9 August 1960; and the decision to recognise the generosity of Sir Edward Maufe in defraying the cost of the redecoration of the Private Rooms at Burlington House, by inscribing his name amongst the list of benefactors at the entrance to the Main Gallery, 12 October 1960.
