Minutes of meetings of the Council, including the following selected entries: the decision to support the protest of the Victorian Society to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government against a proposed redevelopment which threatened original houses in Melbury Road, Kensington, London, and Leighton House, London, 10 January 1961; note of the gift of a group of ten oil paintings and four drawings by Sir William Orpen, 30 May 1961; acceptance of a bequest to the Royal Academy of the gold watch and chain of Joseph Wilton, 13 June 1961; the decision to microfilm the Royal Academy’s Council and General Assembly minute books down to 1830, in response to a number of requests, particularly from American scholars, 1 August 1961; and Council’s endorsement of the draft of a letter from the President, Sir Charles Wheeler, to the Prime Minister [Macmillan] in support of the preservation of the Doric portico at Euston Station, London, 10 October - 6 November 1961.
