Join artist Adele Wagstaff for a five-week online drawing course that focuses on parts of the body using state-of-the-art digital equipment.
Learn to draw different parts of the body by working from professional life models, on this five-week online course. Each week of this course focuses on a single body part, allowing participants a close examination of the anatomy of the human body.
Exemplified by the artwork of artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Jenny Saville RA, figure drawing is fundamental to artistic practice. Throughout the course, participants’ skills are supplemented by the study of the RA’s unique collection of anatomical studies and drawings, including works by John Flaxman RA, and the Academy’s écorché anatomical figures.
Each week a simple take-away challenge or learning activity is set to expand the following week’s activities. Every session includes an interactive feedback session with Adele and fellow participants using the online art-sharing platform, Padlet.
Materials are not provided, but participants will receive a recommended materials list with a range of materials in mind.
Week 1: : Introduction to life drawing and the body, the head and face - proportion and anatomy
Week 2: Torso, the major structures
Week 3: Hands, structure and shape

Adele Wagstaff has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize and the BP Portrait Award, and her work has been exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, Royal West of England Academy and the Canadian Portrait Academy.
