Published 12 August 2014

How would you like to make the leap from Etsy and creative fairs to the shelves of the Royal Academy?

  • RAted banner
  • We’re calling on British designer-makers to submit their most distinctive products to be selected for the next RAted range. Successful applicants will be invited to present at our open call in September, when our award-winning retail team will be on the lookout for creative, original products from accessories to home furnishings.

RAted is our range of hand-picked products from fresh and emerging designer-makers. This exciting range is showcased at our Burlington Gardens shop in the heart of Mayfair, and also reaches a global audience in our industry-leading online shop.

  • RAted – the range on show in our Burlington Gardens shop
  • Our retail team has developed a reputation for creating exclusive, bespoke products in conjunction with our Royal Academicians – the artists who lead the RA – since the early 1980s. Over the years, the RA has supported and collaborated with many designers, building a range of uniquely inspired products for our shop – and the RAted range is just the latest in the series of collaborations. Handpicked original designs specially chosen for the launch of the RAted range have proven extremely successful with our design-led audience.

We’re looking for the finest British quality, originality, form and function. This open call is a great opportunity to get valuable feedback, support and direction to help you further develop your career as a designer. Some of our most successful designers from the RAted range will be present to impart their knowledge and discuss their experience.

  • How to submit your work

You should be a designer-maker based in the UK who has products in production. Not having shown at any major trade shows, you will be in the early stages of developing your career – your retail exposure will be limited to a small number of independent shops or galleries, and your on-line presence should be limited to your own website, Etsy shop or similar.

To submit your work for consideration, please fill in our form. The closing date for submissions is 15 September 2014. Successful applicants will be invited to present their range of products to the RA at the open call on 28 September 2014.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their work. The window for entries to RAted 2014 is now closed.

    Good luck!

  • RAted: meet the makers

    • Jill Green - Red Fox purse

      Jill Green

Jill Green is a printmaker based in London’s Brick Lane, where she has had her studio for the past 8 years. Her work is inspired by nature and wildlife, and is hand screen-printed to the most exacting standards onto Italian suede.

Each wallet and purse is then hand cut, glued and stitched, making each item unique.

Jill’s use of familiar stylised silhouettes applied to covetable, crafted items marry artistic talent with a directional, trendspotting eye.

    • Will Clarke - Westminster print

      Will Clarke

Will Clarke studied at Wimbledon School of Art and Bath Spa University, and is a practising artist and printmaker based in London.

His artwork is characterised by detailed line drawing and carefully constructed compositions, contrasting hand drawn details with bold blocks of colour. Will mixes abstraction and architectural imagery to produce urban scenes with a sense of intricacy and energy. Hand-printed using a range of techniques, each piece is uniquely produced to a limited edition by the artist.

    • Georgia Bosson - Skeleton cushion

      Georgia Bosson

Georgia Bosson’s products are all handmade in her Bermondsey studio. The Skeleton Collection was designed in response to the waste created from industrial die cutting and exemplifies Georgia’s design ethos of creating lasting products which utilise sustainable materials.

Georgia’s clever use of colour, fabric and layering results in a highly contemporary, hugely tactile and desirable range.
