It documents key episodes in the story of this fascinating exchange including the vital role played by the 2 great Russian collectors Ivan Morosov and Sergei Shchukin, whose pre-eminent collections of French art were an inspiration to the Russian avant-garde; the ballet impresario Diaghilev's promotion of Russian art in France in 1906; and the visit of Matisse to Russia in 1911.
'From Russia' includes essay contributions from the directors and curators of the Russian state museums amongst other noted scholars. It also contains biographies of the featured artists and a chronicle of events in the two countries between 1860 and 1920.
The book measures 27 x 24.5cms, is 320 pages long and has approx 350 illustrations.
