A House for Five Women, Gradacac, Bosnia, 2021.
Meet TEN
The jury shortlisted TEN for their amazingly clear, almost graphic architecture. Functioning as a self-described 'record label' the practice has offices in both Zurich and Belgrade that support working groups with members from all over the world.
Their work maintains a consistent thread of social engagement; 'A House for Five Women' is a collaborative project, designed for single, socially disadvantaged women in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The project was developed in collaboration with Hazima Smjalovic, NGO Nas Izvor, Engineers Without Borders, and the Gradačac municipality to create a space for co-habitation. In the building, five self-contained rooms are designed around shared living and garden spaces that allow the families to combine private and communal spaces.
Low-energy construction is central to the practice and projects like the 500-year tower speculate on how innovative construction methods could shape high-density construction into the future. The studio translates a refined and conceptual architectural vocabulary into urban practice, constantly innovating and re-thinking how they can work together.
