How to buy
Buying an artwork at the Summer Exhibition Preview Party is a wonderful way to support contemporary artists and the RA Schools – as well as being a great way to start or enhance your collection. Plus, we’ve made the process easy and convenient:
First, select
• On arrival, you’ll receive a List of Works booklet detailing, by gallery, each exhibition work, and its artist, title, medium, and price*. If the work is listed as NFS, this indicates that it isn’t for sale.
• Within the galleries, a red dot next to a work shows it’s already been bought. With multiple-edition prints, each red dot equals the sale of one print.
• When you’ve selected a work you wish to buy, proceed to the sales desk, located outside the exhibition entrance.
*Each listed price includes VAT, and is for the framed work as displayed (unless otherwise indicated). A separate, unframed price is shown if applicable.
Next, reserve
• At the sales desk, you’ll need to pay a 30% non-refundable deposit against the work’s full sale price. You may pay by cash, cheque or credit card.
• You make payment of the outstanding balance to the artist of the work, who will contact you independently.
Finally, collect
• Purchased unframed editions are posted out by the artist to the buyer once the balance has been settled.
• If you’ve purchased a unique work or framed edition, the artist will send you a “removal order”, which will allow you to collect your purchased artwork once the Summer Exhibition closes.
• Collection dates are 25 August - 14 September 2018 (8am-4pm, Monday to Friday; 9am-4pm Saturday; closed Sundays and Bank Holidays).
• Works are collected from the back of the Royal Academy of Arts, via the West Yard entrance from Burlington Gardens (look for the gateway between 6 Burlington Gardens and Burlington Arcade).
Help at hand
To help with any sales enquiries you may have, members of RA staff will be available throughout the exhibition galleries.
