b+
b+ is a German architectural practice that sees legislation as an important design tool.

Meet b+
bplus.xyz (b+) is a collaborative architecture practice. The practice has pioneered innovative ways of preserving and updating existing buildings. They reject the assumption that new is better and work creatively within existing legislation to make exciting spaces.
One of their ongoing projects is a former silo-tower in Lichtenberg outside Berlin. In order to comply with fire safety and energy regulations without incurring unreasonable costs bplus only installed two levels – one at the street level, and one at the top of the tower. The tower houses the practice’s prototyping workshop where they experiment with architectural applications for different materials like glass, metal and wood.
In addition to these minimal-intervention architectural projects, bplus tackle legislation around buildings directly. Their ‘HouseEurope’ campaign advocates for EU laws to make renovation more affordable, easy and social, removing the barriers for re-using existing buildings.
The jury have shortlisted bplus for the Dorfman Prize as a celebration of their dedication to the subversion of traditional private practice.
