About the tutors
Billy makes sculptures and images using a wide range of techniques and materials, including ceramic, textiles and wood, all stemming from a drawing practice. Billy studied Foundation at Sussex Coast College, Hastings and BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he graduated in 2019. Billy is now in his second year of the RA Schools postgraduate programme.
Elinor Stanley uses painting to amplify and heighten experience with glowing imagery in strange and filmic compositions. She is drawn to the vigour of the fantastical - the placid persistence of its presence in human interpretations.
After school in East London she studied Foundation at the Falmouth School of Art. From there she went to Glasgow School of Art and studied painting, during this time she also travelled to study sculpture for a term in Budapest. A few years after graduating she took part in Open School East, which was an artist run "alternative MA" partially self organised and free, also the Chisenhale Into the Wild programme, which was a similar artist led learning program. She is now in her third and final year at the RA Schools.
Rachel (b. 1995, Aberdeenshire) graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2017 with First Class honours and is currently a second year student at the Royal Academy Schools. She was the recipient of the 2017 Royal Scottish Academy David Michie Travel award and was a selected artist for the Aon Community Art Award 2017 and the John Byrne Award 2019. This year, she received the Cross Trust Grant, which offers financial support to young people of Scottish heritage pursuing a career in the arts.
Her practice explores the sculptural potential of painting, making three-dimensional reliefs using readymade objects, which push, probe and poke behind taut canvas. A new Doll series she is currently developing riff off of internet meme culture and explore how memories and nostalgia for the past can be relived through the shared image.
