Young people's programme: an introduction to clay
Saturday 23 May 2020 11am - 3pm
The Clore Learning Centre, Burlington Gardens, Royal Academy of Arts
Free for young people aged 15 - 19. Booking required.
Investigate the possibilities of clay in this free workshop for young people aged 15 - 19.
Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding coronavirus, we regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to cancel all events advertised for 2020 at this moment.
The session begins with basic hand-building skills such as coiling and slab building, allowing you to create functional and sculptural forms. We will then go on to explore how clay can be used as a mould to create plaster casts.
Throughout the workshop we will be taking inspiration from artists and designers who use clay, exploring the history and alchemy of this wonderful material.
Lydia Hardwick graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2013. Primarily using clay, her practice engages with formal aspects of sculptural ceramics, and the creation of design objects.
Our young people's programme invites 15 – 19yr olds to take part in free, practical workshops led by professional artists. Inspired by our exhibition programme and the RA Collection, each workshop focuses on working with new materials and discussing different approaches to making art.
Young Artists' Summer Show
We're now accepting submissions for this year's Young Artists Summer Show – an opportunity for students aged 5–19 to exhibit their work online and at the RA.
All you have to do is ask your teacher to register your school to take part. Once that's done you can enter your artworks via the website until the deadline on 24 April 2020.
