Lucian Freud: The Self-portraits
Observe and draw from a life model, taking inspiration from the work of Lucian Freud, in this free, full-day workshop for young people aged 15-19.
This workshop artist Mark Hampson will focus on drawing from life, placing a deliberate emphasis on expression. During this session, we will interrogate Freud’s obsessive investigations of surface, texture and the body. You will experiment with gesture, expressive line, compositional drama and the narrative suggestion that develops from the close scrutiny of a life model. This events includes a free ticket to the Lucian Freud: The Self-portraits.
Mark Hampson is an artist and Head of Fine Art Processes at the RA Schools. His artworks merge digital and handmade narrative approaches using combinations of invented and appropriated imagery that create new histories, often of a comic nature. Drawn manipulations of both portraiture and the body are central to his mutant artistic imagery.
Our new young people's programme invites students from all backgrounds, aged 15 to 19, to take part in practical art workshops. Led by professional artists, these free, day-long sessions will take inspiration from our world class exhibition programme and the RA Collection, working with new materials and discussing different approaches to making art.
