The ARTiculation Prize
Monday 13 January 2020 2 - 5pm
The Benjamin West Lecture Theatre, Burlington Gardens, Royal Academy of Arts
Free, booking required.
Join us for an afternoon of conversation and inspiration at this year's ARTiculation Prize – an annual public speaking competition for students aged between 16 and 19.
ARTiculation encourages young people to communicate confidently and to express their ideas and opinions on art. In this regional heat of the Articulation prize, selected students will deliver 10-minute presentations on a work of art, architecture or an artefact of their choice in front of an audience and adjudicator Eliza Bonham Carter, Curator and Head of the Royal Academy Schools.
The adjudicators are leading arts and media professionals who are invited to ask a question after each presentation and will give feedback to each student before selecting one speaker to go through to the Grand Final which is held at the University of Cambridge, Clare College on 13 March 2020.
The ARTiculation outreach programme, which delivers Discovery Days in museums and galleries across the country, encourages young people to look, think and speak about art through research and questioning. All students who take part can join the ARTiculation Alumni programme, which finds opportunities for young people to gain work experience, to speak again in public, to write for publications and to join training and mentoring schemes.
Young People's Programme
Our new young people’s programme invites students, aged 15 to 19, to take part in practical art workshops. Led by professional artists, these free, day-long sessions will take inspiration from our world class exhibition programme and the RA Collection, working with new materials and discussing different approaches to making art.
Young Artists' Summer Show
Now in its second year, the Young Artists Summer Show is an opportunity for students aged 5–19 to exhibit their work online and at the RA. You can view last year's exhibition here
From 6 January 2020, teachers will be able to register their school to take part in next year's exhibition. Once their school is registered, students can enter their artworks via the RA website until the deadline on 24 April 2020.
