Young Patrons: Michael Armitage Studio Visit
Wednesday 29 April 2015 6.30 - 8.30pm
Bermondsey, London
Free, but please RSVP.
Join us for a private tour of Michael Armitage’s White Cube show followed by a visit to his studio.
On the opening day of Michael Armitage’s solo show at White Cube Bermondsey, the RA Schools alumnus will walk us through his much-anticipated exhibition, and then down the street to his studio, offering us a very special insight into his artistic process. Dividing his time between London and Kenya, Michael’s work incorporates elements of his African homeland quite literally, using lubargo bark cloth as a raw material. His colourful work and style are evocative of the dreamlike landscapes of Peter Doig or the fauvist compositions of Paul Gaugin, two Europeans who also sought artistic inspiration in faraway exotic lands and who subsequently integrated those tropical colours and culture into their bodies of work.
