This tour, led by representatives from the Brunel Museum, takes in the rich maritime history of Rotherhithe and an exclusive visit to Brunel’s Thames Tunnel.
During a career cut short by his death, aged 53, in 1859, Isambard Kingdom Brunel was an engineering genius and the father of urban mass transit systems. Our walking tour of the area around Rotherhithe and featuring Brunel’s Thames Tunnel will explore the history of this unique riverside area, which is rich in maritime and commercial links. We finish the tour by descending into the Grand Entrance Hall of the tunnel, an astonishing huge chamber, half the size of the Globe Theatre. Please note that the entrance to the tunnel is through a low doorway and access is limited.
This event is also taking place on 30 September 2015.
