Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia discusses his unique approach to green architecture in the 21st century.
Vo Trong Nghia Architects is a Vietnamese practice that demonstrates a high level of social and ecological awareness. Coming to prominence on the international architecture scene in 2012 with Stacking Green in Ho Chi Minh City, they now boast a series of award-winning projects with an impressive capacity to integrate inexpensive, local materials with contemporary aesthetics. Works such as the Farming Kindergarten and House for Trees are engaging experiments in light, wind and water aimed at creating green architecture for the 21st century.
The innovative mentality of the practice is most apparent in Vo Trong Nghia’s approach to using bamboo as a building material. He has become one of the leading proponents of bamboo architecture, boldly claiming that it will “…become the ‘green steel’ of the 21st century.”
