Tonkin Liu, Opening Bridge to Crystal Palace Dinosaur Islands.

Folded and laser-cut paper and steel. 15 x 80 x 59 cm.

Join us in the Summer Exhibition to learn more about “Opening Bridge to Crystal Palace Dinosaur Islands”, the 2019 BKI Architecture and Materials Prize winning project.

This year, the Summer Exhibition’s Architecture Room has been selected by architect and Royal Academician Spencer de Grey RA, who encouraged architects to submit projects with a clear sustainable agenda.

The jury, including BKI CEO Bahadir Kayan, Martin Brudnizki of Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and Dexter Moren of Dexter Moren Associates selected this bridge as the recipient of this year’s £2,500 BKI Architecture and Materials Prize. The judges were particularly impressed by “the creative use of a simple sheet of recycled steel” used here “to make an integral bridge structure that is a beautiful, elegant object as captured in the very seductive model”.

Join us for a short in-gallery talk to hear Mike Tonkin of Tonkin Liu Architects talk about the winning project and how in connects with the curatorial brief.

This prize is kindly supported by BKI International.
