The artist Timothy Hyman discusses his residency at the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in London with its lead designer, Ivan Harbour of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
In 2011 Timothy Hyman began a year long residency at the Maggie’s Centre in Fulham. His brief was “to capture the life of the centre” – the people who come the centre, their interactions with staff and other visitors, and the relationships they form around the “kitchen table” that’s at the heart of every centre. At the Fulham centre, the “kitchen table” sits within a series of interlocking spaces that allow for both moments of quiet contemplation or communal activity – all contained within vivid orange walls and a pavilion roof that provides shelter from the outside world. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, it won the Stirling Prize in 2009. In this event, Hyman discusses his work and experiences at the centre with RSH+P partner, Ivan Harbour, who led its design.
