Teacher studios: drawing the figure from life
Primary and SEND Teachers
Friday 4 October 2019 5.45 - 8.30pm
The Clore Learning Centre, Burlington Gardens, Royal Academy of Arts
£30, includes refreshments and materials. Teachers only.
Make art, network and unwind with other teachers at this informal Friday-evening teacher studio.
This practical workshop (suitable for primary and SEND teachers) will guide you through the basic aspects of drawing from life. You will work from a professional life model to explore a variety of techniques, including:
● Observation skills
● Mark-making, perspective and composition
● Experimenting with line, form, tone and texture
● Exploring ways of depicting the human figure
The session is led by practising artist Lucy Ribeiro, and is suitable for primary and SEND teachers of all abilities, including professional artists, new learners and those who wish to refresh their practice.
Teacher studios are after-school sessions designed to introduce you to new ways of working and thinking about art, whilst also giving you space to learn new techniques and experiment with different mediums in a relaxed, sociable environment.
Lucy Ribeiro's work explores memory, mark-making, and repetition. She uses printing, painting and drawing to investigate hidden forms and repetition taken from everyday ephemera. She has exhibited in London, the UK and internationally. She works as an artist educator and creative producer for the Royal Academy, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Kew Gardens and the V&A. Her work can be found in private collections in the UK, Europe and Japan.
There will also be a day-long teacher workshop focusing on life-drawing, taking place on Saturday 23 November.
