Picasso and Paper
Collage, draw, network and unwind with other teachers at this informal Friday-evening teacher studio.
Taking the works on paper and papier-collé from Picasso and Paper as your starting point, explore a range of drawing materials and processes as you create a collage with artist Jake Garfield.
This workshop will combine individual practical activities as well as collaborative, discussion-based work. You will produce a diverse selection of drawings in dry and fluid mediums through a series of tutor-led exercises, before facing the unknown and cutting them up to create cubist-style collages.
Teacher studios are after-school sessions designed to introduce you to new ways of working and thinking about art, whilst also giving you space to learn new techniques and experiment with different mediums in a relaxed, sociable environment.
Jake Garfield studied at the Royal College of Art and the Royal Drawing School. Through printmaking, he explores the relationship between images and reality in contemporary life. In 2018 Jake launched Line of Thought, which provides workshops at the intersection of art and philosophical discussion at institutions including The Royal Drawing School, The Royal College of Art and The Whitechapel Gallery. He is the recipient of the Royal Drawing School Printmaking Prize in 2013, the Durham Wharf Award in 2015 and the Printmakers Council Prize in 2016.
The session is suitable for all abilities, including professional artists, new learners and those who wish to refresh their practice.
Exhibition organised by the Royal Academy of Arts, London and the Cleveland Museum of Art in partnership with the Musée national Picasso-Paris.
