Drop in for a free 15-minute talk to unearth the hidden stories of the Royal Academy.

Perhaps the most influential British artist of the Eighteenth Century, Sir Joshua Reynolds holds a special place in the history of the Royal Academy as its first President. This talk will explore how his self-portrait is not only a display of dazzling virtuosity, but also reflects his role in raising the status of the artist in Britain from that of craftsman to intellectual professional, and pays homage to his artistic heroes.

In this series of taster talks, encounter the stories behind the RA’s Collection and its buildings from the perspective of RA staff. Taster talks take place at 2pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Taster talks are free and last 15 minutes. Ask a member of the team on site for further information.
