Drop in for a free 15-minute talk to unearth the hidden stories of the Royal Academy.
Perhaps the most influential British artist of the Eighteenth Century, Sir Joshua Reynolds holds a special place in the history of the Royal Academy as its first President. This talk will explore how his self-portrait is not only a display of dazzling virtuosity, but also reflects his role in raising the status of the artist in Britain from that of craftsman to intellectual professional, and pays homage to his artistic heroes.
