On this private tour led by one of the fellows of the Society of Antiquaries, Friends will view a rich collection, admire intriguing interiors and learn about the history of one of the UK’s oldest learned societies.
Founded in 1717, the Society of Antiquaries moved from Somerset House to Burlington House in 1874. The Society contains more than 50,000 objects ranging from prehistoric, classical and medieval antiquities to seals, matrices and paintings, as well as fascinating items relating to the history of the Society.
Friends will also view the Society’s research library, the largest antiquarian library in the UK, which has an outstanding collection of 130,000 books dating from the 15th century to the present day.
This event will also take place on 12 June.
